Mohamed Salah tested positive for coronavirus – VG

Salah is currently in the training camp for the national team with Egypt.

Egypt will face Togo twice in the next few days in qualifying for the African Championship. The games are played on Saturday and Tuesday, but it will be without the Liverpool star, who has tested positive for covid-19.

According to the BBC, Salah could also lose Liverpool’s next two games against Leicester and Atalanta.

Salah joins a growing list of players who have been infected by the virus during national team rallies.

Several cases

Earlier on Friday, it was announced that Norwegian Omar Elabdellaoui tested positive, and during the previous national team’s break in October, Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo tested positive for the virus.

Earlier this week, Israeli player Mu’nas Dabbur became infected, leading to the cancellation of the private international match between Norway and Israel. The captain of the Croatian national team, Domagoj Vida, played 45 minutes of the Croatians’ private international game against Turkey before discovering that he had tested positive for the corona virus.

However, the salah must be symptom-free and in good shape. The Egyptian Football Association states in the press release that Salah will do more tests in the next few hours.

Just three days ago, he was at his brother Nasr’s wedding in Cairo, the capital of Egypt. There he was photographed and filmed dancing with various guests.

Salah is by far the biggest soccer star in Egypt and a popular hero in his home country.

– He is a national hero who has made the dreams of the country come true. When Egypt needed him, he was there to help them. It made 95 million Egyptians happy and proud, said Mohamed Megahed, a representative of the Egyptian authorities, when Salah got a ticket to the World Cup from the penalty spot.

The game is played as planned

The rest of the Egyptian national team squad is said to have tested negative for the virus, and although Salah is now isolated under the regulations of the CAF, the African Football Association, Egypt will play Saturday’s game against Togo as planned.
