Petter Northug, Norwegian Ski Association | The Norwegian Ski Association continues its collaboration with Northug

The Norwegian Ski Association has concluded.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Norwegian Ski Association states that it has decided to continue the existing agreement with Petter Northug and his company Northug AS.

It was long uncertain whether the association would continue the collaboration with the former cross country star after he was taken for a rough ride this summer. Police also found cocaine in Northug’s apartment and he later admitted to having a substance abuse problem.

Now, however, the Ski Federation announces that it continues the collaboration with the former world champion after having agreed that “the same will not happen again.”

Cross country manager Espen Bjervig tells Nettavisen they want to help Northug.

– It was a global assessment. There has been a traffic violation and drug use admission, which of course we distanced ourselves from, but there is a person named Petter Northug here. It has meant an incredible amount for Norwegian and international cross-country skiing., says Bjervig.

– Petter is very happy

After receiving contractual promises that similar incidents will not occur again, the Ski Federation considered it correct to continue cooperation, says Bjervig.

– We want to support Petter in life off the ski slope, says Bjervig.

The cross-country manager feels Northug is sincerely happy that the parties can continue to cooperate.

This is also confirmed by Terje Hallan at Northug AS to Nettavisen.

He will not comment on the process surrounding the Ski Association’s choice to go ahead with the agreement, but says they have just been informed of the decision.

He also likes the former king of skiing.

-Petter is, of course, very happy that the deal continues, Hallan tells Nettavisen.

Northug did not even respond to Nettavisen’s question Wednesday night.

The ski association does like Swedish profiles

The ski association has chosen to do the same as other Northug partners.

Earlier this fall, it became clear that Calle Halfvarsson and Frida Karlsson, among others, have also decided to continue the agreements they have with the Northug company.

– In a way, you have to differentiate a bit between person and company. The brand is more than Petter and we have had a good and successful collaboration with them, Karlsson told Swedish TT in September.

Karlsson also thought it was crucial that Northug was not drunk when he was driving his jaguar on the way home from Trysil.

Karlsson said she has been in contact with Northug herself.

– Petter is a human being like everyone else and makes mistakes. He was driving too fast and has had trouble adjusting after giving up. You need help and want to accept that help. As a friend, I want to support him, she says.

However, not everyone has chosen to continue working with Northug.

The day after Northug announced the rough driving and drug seizures, Uno-X announced that it would end the collaboration with the ski king brand.

– We came to an agreement with Northug and we expected that collaboration, and now we realize that enough Petter has to focus on other things. The deal will be finalized shortly, Uno-X Pro Cycling manager Jens Haugland told Adresseavisen in August.
