On Tuesday, the government will present a so-called supplementary bill to the state budget. It will include a series of mitigation measures that will prevent a flood of bankruptcies and layoffs in the business community.
Crown unemployment affects women and the underpaid
But the opposition in the Storting wants more. Rødt’s Bjørnar Moxnes fears that the government will forget the workers and those sitting at the bottom of the table.
– Rødt makes a proposal for urgent treatment at the Storting so that the government immediately presents a crisis package, so that we can ensure income for workers, Moxnes tells Dagbladet.
It starts to look like canning
Crisis package
The first opportunity to present a proposal of this kind is the meeting of the Storting on Tuesday. It remains to be seen how far it will win a majority, but both the SV and the Labor Party raised concerns about the social aspects of the government’s crisis packages after hearing the report on the prime minister’s crown in the Storting on Thursday.
Desperate: – It’s the door hook
– The infection is spreading, and now we must follow the advice that comes from both the state and the municipalities. It will be a difficult time for many, and now it is crucial that the government immediately follow up with powerful measures for people who are not allowed to work and industries that have to close, says SV leader Audun Lysbakken.
Neither Lysbakken nor Moxnes are satisfied with government deliveries in this area so far.
– The government failed the workers when it presented the first crisis packages in March. Therefore, the Storting must now quickly establish income security for the workers who are now being hit in full force again, Moxnes says.
Ten requirements
The proposal that Rødt will promote for urgent consideration at the Storting includes ten specific points. At the top is the requirement to reduce the income limit for the right to unemployment benefits to 0.75 of the basic amount of the National Insurance.
Crisis meeting: requires a new corona strategy
Rødt also calls on the government to reduce the requirement to reduce working hours to receive unemployment benefits during layoff, to 20 percent and to extend the benefit period for recipients of unemployment benefits and work benefits.
Also included in the list are at least 20 full days from the dismissal, the elimination of waiting days and the reintroduction of the vacation supplement into the unemployment benefit scheme, as well as separate measures for dismissed apprentices.
The same applies to an increase in temporary financial aid for the self-employed and the self-employed, as well as an extension of the compensation scheme for organizers and subcontractors in the cultural sector.
We will spend the weekend
Finance committee leader Mudassar Kapur (H) says the government will spend the weekend evaluating new measures and assessing the financial consequences of the new infection control measures.
Norway’s strictest measures
– Since March, the Conservative-Left-KrF government has worked almost all day to do what is necessary to get all of Norway out of this crisis in the best possible way. It still applies, says Kapur in a comment to Dagbladet.
– We will continue to do everything possible to secure jobs and help those who have lost their jobs to return to work. We have just announced that we are expanding the schemes with extended entitlement to sickness, welfare and unemployment benefits. This is to take action, and it will not be the last, continues the conservative representative.
