Around 100 employees of the company will lose their jobs in Sogn. They were informed about the reduction in a meeting Thursday.

The company writes in a press release.
– Now we see that in our order book it says that we are really empty of work for the fall of next year. If there are new projects, of course it interests us, but now we have to prepare for what is possible.
This is what Erlend Hatleberg, CEO of Havyard Ship Technology, tells E24. On Thursday, he and management announced the reduction through Teams.
– The Norwegian shipbuilding industry faces serious problems, writes the company.
In the press release, CEO Gunnar Larsen calls for more measures to facilitate shipbuilding in Norway.
He also emphasizes that the consequences of the corona pandemic are an additional challenge for the shipyards, and he wants the support of the authorities to get out of the crisis.
Restart the operation
Havyard has a total of 349 employees. The group has its headquarters in Leirvik and branches in Fosnavåg in Sunnmøre, Poland and Turkey.
In the coming months, boats will continue to be delivered to customers, two before Christmas and four in the new year. But beyond 2021, the shipyard plans a gradual reduction.
Havyard claims the reduction comes after the decision that the New Havyard Ship Technology subsidiary is relocating operations to repair and service yards.
– This is due to prevailing conditions in the new building market and construction financing opportunities will be challenging in the future, Havyard Group writes in the press release.
Closed after infection
The Hyllestad municipality closed the yard in early October after an outbreak of infection. The outbreak caused 90 of the roughly 1,300 inhabitants of the municipality to be infected by the virus, according to NTB. All the cases were related to the shipyard.
Since then, the municipality has received criticism from the NIPH for the lack of an overview of the cases and close contacts.
– I don’t take it too seriously, but I agree that ideally we should have had better control. 7-800 were to be evaluated in our small municipality and it was a huge effort by the health personnel, says Mayor Kjell Eide.
Havyard’s yard reopened on October 16. At that time, the company reported delays and considered measures to make up for lost production time.
However, the mayor of Hyllestad is optimistic.
– We had a meeting today, we were informed and notified early that they had a problem. In a way, this is a warning of what can happen in the worst case. I’ll at least look at the possibilities, says Mayor Eide.
The company plans to present its third-quarter report in late November. Havyard has previously reported a negative equity of NOK 138 million in the report for the first half of the year. The profit before tax was less than NOK 32.3 million.
