Manchester Evening News claims Manchester United have contacted unemployed Mauricio Pochettino (48) as a possible replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjær (47).

It is the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, Samuel Luckhurst, who has mentioned the alleged approach.

“Manchester United are interested in hiring Mauricio Pochettino as their next manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjær suffered his fourth defeat in nine Premier League and Champions League games,” he wrote in the article.

The newspaper writes that United should have contacted Pochettino’s representatives as a result of the team’s poor performance, and that a Solskjær loss to Everton on Saturday could damage the Norwegian further.

In Twitter Luckhurst notes that there is still “a reluctance to fire Solskjær so early in the season, but it is accepted that they need to have a replacement ready.”

– If United loses and finishes the weekend in 17th place, it will further irritate the board. Premier League managers have been laid off in November for the past three years, and this appears to be a test of United’s nerves. It is true that this is not just any November, because United have played five games less than they normally would. But they haven’t lost four of their first seven league games since 1989, Luckhurst told VG.

After Wednesday’s 2-1 loss to Istanbul Basaksehir, Solskjær was asked if he believes his job is in danger.

– I refuse to answer, Solskjær replied in the session that you can see here:

Pochettino was a guest on the Sky Sports show “Monday Night Football” on Monday.

– I hope I can get back to work soon. I’m looking forward to being back, he said.

The Argentine has been unemployed since he was fired from Tottenham in December.

When Solskjær was hired as Manchester United’s interim manager in December 2018, there was a common perception that Pochettino was United’s favorite to land the job permanently. However, it ended up that Solskjær’s achievements earned him a three-year contract.

Manchester United are now 15th in the Premier League after six games. Saturday’s deal against fourth-place Everton is the last before a two-week hiatus with the national team.
