Kim Jong-un tearfully apologized in televised speech

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un delivered a speech this weekend in connection with the 75th anniversary of the North Korean ruling party.

In the speech, he shed tears and came with a rare apology, writes The Guardian.

The British newspaper quotes the Korea Times, which writes that Kim regretted not leading the country well enough in turbulent times that have been exacerbated by the crown pandemic.

Dry tears

In the speech, Kim removed her glasses and wiped away tears, writes The Guardian.

“Our people have confidence as high as the sky and deep as the sea, but I have not always been able to live satisfactorily,” he said, according to the Korea Times.

– I’m very sorry, he continued.

The director of the think tank of the Korean Institute for National Unification, Hong Min, told the Korea Times that it is important to see why Kim shed tears on such an occasion.

Hong says tears can indicate a lot of pressure.

In his speech he used words such as “great challenges”, “innumerable trials” and “disasters without parallel in world history”. It shows that ruling the country is challenging, Hong says.

Hong also says that things may indicate that Kim is concerned about the stability of the country when, among other things, in his speech he asks people to continue to trust him and the regime.

Claim that you are not infected

On Saturday, a military parade and rally took place that most countries would have avoided in 2020 in connection with the 75th anniversary.

In the famous North Korean style, it was marked with pomp and splendor. There was little sign that the regime paid attention to infection control and thousands of soldiers, without bandages, heard the leader speak to the people.

And if one chooses to believe in Jong-Un, there is no reason to take strong infection control considerations either. He claims that the country is completely crown free.

“I am grateful that not a single person in North Korea is infected,” he said during the military parade, according to the AFP news agency.

Giant missile

North Korea took the opportunity to unveil what appears to be a new ICBM.

The missile, which was shown on television on Saturday, had a mobile launch pad with up to eleven axes.

Kim promised continued significant investment in defense and a full nuclear mobilization if anyone threatened North Korea.
