Two people were injured in a knife attack in the French capital and two alleged perpetrators were arrested.

Two people were seriously injured after a knife attack in Paris on Friday and French police have arrested two alleged perpetrators.

It was previously reported that four people were injured. He was later demoted to two.

According to Le Monde, the two injured are employees of the Premières Lignes news agency. So says producer Luc Hermann.

None of them are supposed to be a journalist, but they do work in film production and post-production, he tells Le Monde.

According to Variety, Première Lignes is the company that produced the HBO documentary on the Charlie Hebdo attack: “Three Days of Terror.”

– Two colleagues had a cigarette in the street in front of the building. I heard screams. I went to the window and saw my colleagues covered in blood being chased down the street by a man with a machete, a Premières Lignes employee tells AFP

A person with traces of blood on his clothes was arrested around 12:45 at the Opera de la Bastille. The person in question may be one of the suspects, reports Le Figaro.

Authorities have opened an investigation for attempted murder and possible terrorist act, reports the French newspaper.

One was seen disappearing into the subway while the other alleged aide was at street level near the scene in District 11.

At around 1.30 pm, police arrested a second suspect near the Richard Lenoir subway station. The two have been arrested, according to sources at Le Figaro.

Both have now been arrested.

Large police forces are on the streets and the special police force is in place. Nicolas-Appert street, where Premières Lignes is located, is blocked and, according to AFP, several dozen policemen are on the scene.

People in the area have been asked to stay indoors, and schools in the area have closed their doors and kept students indoors, according to Paris Mayor Ariel Weil.

The stabbings took place near the former facility of Charlie Hebdo, who was the target of a terrorist attack in 2015.

This is confirmed by the French Prime Minister, Jean Castex, in a message on Twitter.

– There has been a knife attack near Charlie Hebdo’s old premises. I immediately went to Place Beavau to get an overview of the situation with the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, writes Castex.

Crisis personnel have been established in the Ministry of the Interior.

Two police sources told Reuters a knife weapon was found at the scene, but it is unclear whether it is a machete or a meat ax.

A suspicious package was also found outside the former satire magazine facility, and police barricades were set up around the area, Reuters reports.

The bomb squad has confirmed that the suspicious package did not contain explosives, according to Le Monde.

The trial against several of those who allegedly contributed to the 2015 attack on the satire magazine Charlie Hebdo in which 12 people were killed began 14 days ago. It is unknown if there is a connection between the trial and Friday’s attack.

So far it is not known what the motive for the attack is.
