Wara’s very strong response came when her assistant attorney Ellen Holager Andenæs asked her.
I wanted to know how the experienced communication consultant experienced that the information of the investigation that the Police Security Service (PST) had against her partner Laila Bertheussen ended up in the media.
Wara had no doubt that the leaked information came from PST, as it was information that only they knew. It involved incorrect health information from an interrogation and information about a 30-year-old judge that Bertheussen had received in the 1980s.
“I don’t know if this is a lack of character or a lack of culture, but it’s embarrassing and helps create an image of her that she can’t defend against,” Wara said.
– How are you, Laila?
Defendant Bertheussen followed him a few meters when Wara explained himself in Oslo District Court on Thursday.
According to Wara, the latest incident, the fire in the family’s car in March last year, took place while he himself was on a boys’ trip to Liverpool to watch a game with the city’s football team. He had received the trip as a gift from his partner.
– My reaction was first: – How are you, Laila ?, he said to the prosecutor, the prosecutor Frederik Ranke.
Wara asked him several times if he would return home, but the defendant wanted him to stay and watch the game the next day.
– She replied that it was fine and that I should not stress, she said.
Crisp and clear
The temperature in room 250 was occasionally quite high during the prosecutor’s questioning. Wara, who is offended by the case, responded sharply and clearly to all the questions that were asked. He also presented criticism, even related to one of the interrogations he was in.
– I think the interrogator was late. It was a great mental strain for her. What we are talking about in a crisis situation, we must keep to ourselves. I think that having access to private conversations after the events is inconvenient, he said.
Wara described the family home as a bunker for the defendants. He said that part of the treatment the partner has received has made her worse and depressed.
– The house has become a bunker from which he cannot get out. What traps her is the disease. She must be in the house where someone enters and watches. It must be your safe zone.
When asked about the vandalism against the house in December 2018, he said he thought it was done amateurishly and perhaps done by someone who was drunk and sobbing.
– The swastika was drawn incorrectly and they tried to start a diesel car, Wara said, adding that he did not believe this would have happened had it not been the Minister of Justice.
He also reiterated several times that he does not comment on probabilities and speculation.
