From weeks 35 to 36, infection rates in Norway had almost doubled. But now they may have been flattened.

In a recent report, FHI notes that 740 infections were reported at week 36 and 751 at week 37.

NIPH believes that the spread of the infection in Norway is still at a relatively low level and that the risk of a new national outbreak is low.

But they also note that the number of cases per week is at a “significantly higher level than during the summer.”

According to the weekly report, three Norwegian counties are above the infection requirement that Norway has for other regions in the Nordic region.

  • The requirement is: That they must have less than 20 infected per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days. Otherwise they may be red in color and Norwegians traveling there must be quarantined.

Vestland was (with figures from weeks 36 and 37) in 65.7, Oslo had 52.5 and The Bay 42.9. If they were Swedish regions, Norway would have colored them red. But the government has no restrictions or advice on where you should travel nationally at this time.

Increase in hospital admissions

The number of hospital admissions has not risen as infection rates have since the summer. At week 37, however, 20 new hospital admissions with covid-19 as the main cause were reported, which is the highest number since week 17.

But it is too early to tell if there is an uptrend, notes FHI.

Few or no people are still in the intensive care unit or need respiratory treatment. Despite the huge increase in infection rates. And there hasn’t been a huge increase in deaths.

– This may be due to the fact that the infection in recent weeks has mainly occurred in younger people with a low risk of a severe course and that extensive testing and tracking of the infection means that we detect more cases with a mild course, notes FHI in the report.
