Ragnhild Mowinckel (27) has been “on the bottom of the boat” but is more positive than long after the cruciate ligament injury. She is betting on a comeback at the World Cup during the season.
After a good training session at the Olympic summit, the alpine star takes time to chat with NTB about the season ahead. The alpine season kicks off in Sölden on October 17, but it’s guaranteed that it won’t feature Ragnhild Mowinckel.
When he returns with the start number on his chest, he is still completely blue. First, you need to recover 100 percent after cruciate ligament injury.

– I’m not in a rush, but coming back during this season is definitely the plan. Coming back stronger than me is a good goal, but we haven’t set any results-oriented goals yet, he continues.
Could have been an idiot
Not many days have passed since he returned home from his first meeting with the national team on skis. On Instagram, he shared the experience after 283 days without skiing outdoors. At the Galdhøpiggen (Juvass) summer ski center he got the answers he was looking for.
– I’m not fast at the moment, but for me it is a progression that goes like a deep staircase with long steps. You raise the level a little, you also stay there for a while, you also raise the level a little more.
– I could have been an idiot and just “light the fireplace”, but I’ll use as long as it takes, says Mowinckel.
– Absolutely king
Not only was it good to get back on skis, it was also a pleasure to be back at the meeting with the national team.
– He was “completely king.” There is a high level of well-being and there are many reasons why it does too. There is joy around every corner, says the Molde girl.
The cruciate ligament injuries have not stopped the desire to continue at the highest level. You’re still hungry for more, but it seems like how long it lasts mostly on your knee.
– I will not sacrifice lives and members to have an incredibly long career. I’ve already accomplished things that I am incredibly proud of and happy to have experienced, says Mowinckel with two Olympic silver medals in his eyes.
Pot bottom
The Olympic medals were won in February 2018. The following month (March 9) he won his first World Cup victory. The day a year later, things went wrong in training prior to the World Cup final in Andorra. After a panic attack, a torn anterior cruciate ligament was found.
During training at Bjorli in November last year, the cruciate ligament broke again, almost without her noticing. The injury, which led Mowinckel to bed, was bad news.
– So it was at the bottom of the pot. The worst was the scare, at least when you don’t know what happened.
So it was only to go back to the beginning and embark on a new long rehab period.
– I’m very happy that it happened in a calm and controlled environment, because it says a little about how bad I was with that knee. Glad it didn’t happen in Lake Louis at 130 miles per hour. Then the result could have been much worse.
It deserves to be better
But this time, the 27-year-old seems more positive than in a long time.
– I’ve come further now than last time, and that’s a positive sign. One must have a threat, or is it just giving up.
– I cannot say that here it will not go well at that time either, but there are a number of factors now that have been positive, such as that I have been skiing and that things are working well.
After two cruciate ligament injuries in rap, Mowinckel hopes he’s been pretty unlucky for a while.
– I hope so. I really feel like I deserve to be a little better now. But there is always a risk. At least when he returns after two cruciate ligament injuries, he is even more exposed again.
But if all goes as it should, we will see the 27-year-old buttery back at the World Cup this season.
