Police will block large parts of downtown Hamar during SIAN marking – NRK Innlandet – Local News, TV and Radio

The markup SIAN will carry out in Hamar on Saturday afternoon puts police in what can almost be called emergency preparedness.

Especially in Bergen, but also elsewhere, the celebration and counter-demonstrations led to violence and chaos.

The Inland Police invest great resources to prevent it.

The police block the streets leading to Østre Torg, where SIAN is posted.

Report hate speech

All who want to enter Østre Torg will be searched and a fence will be placed between SIAN and the participants in the announced counter-demonstration, police report.

– It is the role of the police to facilitate constitutional freedom of expression as long as the statements and marks are within Norwegian law. The police must guarantee the safety of all those present.

This is what the Chief of Staff of the Internal Police, Pål Erik Teigen, says.

SIAN does not hide on its website that they believe the police are interfering too much with a legal brand.

The police received much criticism for the excessive use of force in Bergen, but received the support, among others, of the leader of the city council.

And the police do not hide that they will closely follow what is said from SIAN.

– If hate speech is made, criminal cases will be opened in retrospect, but the police do not have the opportunity to conduct censorship in advance, the police write in a press release.

– Waiting for a non-violent selection

Police write that they plan to have an isolated role during marking, and that there will be uniformed police and civilians in the area.

But they are ready to act if the markup and counter-demonstration degenerate.

– The police will take care of peace, order and security in general. If someone is carrying objects that can be thrown or that in some other way create a danger to life and health, they should expect to be deprived of them, says Chief of Staff Teigen.

Police in riot gear stormed a demonstration on Friday, dislodging hundreds of protesters by truck. Police in riot gear stormed a demonstration on Friday, dislodging hundreds of protesters by truck.

Therefore, the police are on high alert, but urges those in Østre Torg on Saturday to avoid the police having to intervene.

– We hope and recommend that all those who come forward contribute to a peaceful and non-violent celebration. We encourage parents to be with minors if they will be in the area around Østre Torg in connection with the celebration, says Chief of Staff Pål Erik Teigen.
