On Monday, Dagbladet reported that probably twice as many people were infected at private events than at nightclubs in weeks 31/32 and 32/33, according to weekly reports from the National Institute of Public Health. Now the deputy leader of the Progress Party (Frp), Sylvi Listhaug, has had enough.
– There is no shame in turning around. If you see that a measure is not working, you need to do something about it. I hope that there was no prestige in this, and that Høie (Health Minister Bent Høie journaln.anm.) And the government change this measure immediately.
New NIPH Figures on Nightclub Infections
Disco infection
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health assumes that nine percent of those infected in Norway in weeks 31/32 and 32/33 were infected in a restaurant, bar or nightclub. If you also include those who were infected outside of Norway (import cases), the percentage of suspected infection in restaurants will be somewhat lower.
In comparison, probably 20% of those infected in Norway in week 31/32 and 19% in week 32/33 were infected in private events.
– This is exactly what we feared would happen. You want people to stay home, follow infection control rules, and live calmly until this is over, but unfortunately the world is not like this, Listhaug says, continuing:
– There are those who need to have fun and have fun even if it is a pandemic, and no politician can control it. So it is much better to be in nightclubs where there are employees who make sure that the infection control rules are followed, than to move the party home.
Pour stop
Since August 8, Norwegian restaurants and clubs are prohibited from serving alcohol after midnight. Since before, the industry has been subject to strict regulations regarding infection control and hygiene. Among other things, there will be seating for all guests and all alcoholic beverages will be served at the table.
Both Oslo City Councilor Raymond Johansen (Labor Party) and Bergen City Councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor Party) have called on the government to lift the ban on alcoholic beverages. This is due to fears that the move will lead to more house parties and more spread of the infection.
– Stopping drinking at midnight makes people continue to party at home or not go to discos. This weekend’s cave party shows some of the creativity that exists in this area. It’s much safer for people to stay in a nightclub, Listhaug says.
Unsafety
On Friday, Prime Minister Erna Solberg (H) announced that a further reopening of the company is on hold due to the infection situation in Norway. This means that the government will also not reconsider stopping drinking at midnight until mid-September at the earliest.
The director of the department of the National Institute of Public Health, Line Vold, emphasized to Dagbladet that the figures on the presumed site of infection were subject to uncertainty.
I found the man bleeding in the cave: – I thought he was dead
– The figures in the weekly reports are subject to some uncertainty. This is what people declare as a probable infection site, which is entered in our statistics. But it can probably vary a bit how good an overview you have of it. It is also true that he does not have information on the presumed site of infection for all cases, he told Dagbladet.
In week 31/32, 17 percent of those infected in Norway were registered at an unknown infection site. In week 32/33, 12 percent were registered with an unknown infection site.
