In a meeting that lasted up to five hours on Wednesday, Central Bank Governor Øystein Olsen reported on the appointment of billionaire Nicolai Tangen (53) as the new manager of oil funds.
– The Supervisory Board has received a statement from the Governor, but there are some questions that we have not answered. They will be sent and then asked to receive a written response from the Executive Board. When received, the Supervisory Board will meet again and continue to work, committee chairwoman Julie Brodtkorb tells VG.
The extraordinary gathering and presentation comes after the disclosure of Tang’s ties to the peaks of the key community and his “dream seminar” in the United States last year. The Manager of the Oil Drainage Fund Yngve Slyngstad was one of the participants in the seminar.
– What the Supervisory Board thinks about the responses we have received today, it is natural to respond when we have a complete overview, says Brodtkorb.
– What kind of questions did the Governor ask?
– It was about Tangen’s hiring process, and it was about the current boss’s participation in the seminar, she says.

– The Supervisory Board is an oversight, and it is the Supervisory Board as a whole that handles the matter. It has not been finalized, it will be discussed in several other meetings.

Tangen, introduced in March this year as the new head of the Norwegian Petroleum Fund, hired two private jets and covered hotels, food and beverage and entertainment for many of the nearly 150 participants.
Several community leaders attended the seminar, including former Oil Fund Manager Knut Kjær, Prime Minister Torbjørn Røe Isaksen (H), and Government Prosecutor Fredrik Sejersted. VG has written about how the social peaks of the trip were set as references for Tangen.
