Trond Giske (AP) and Culture Minister Abid Raja (V) shoot each other in the Norwegian football debate. Giske believes the Storting will demand that Raja find a solution for soccer.

Giske enthusiastically attacks Raja, who on Wednesday night attacked those he believes are ungrateful Norwegian soccer leaders, after Raja has been attacked lately.

– I read that Raja is frustrated by Sports-Norway’s criticism and defends himself that he knows the offside rule. My experience as a former sports minister is that there is a better way to avoid criticism as a sports minister: get the job done! Giske says to VG.

He was Minister of Culture from 2005 to 2009.

Raja and several soccer leaders disagree on how good crisis packages are for the sport, and argue among other things about whether clubs should receive sponsorship revenue, the most important revenue for a top club in Norway.

– That debate falls on the most important issue, says Giske.

Instead, the parliamentary politician asks Raja to be the driving force of the main clubs and health authorities so that football starts again this summer.

– It can be fixed. There is only will and power, says Giske.

Raja meets the health spikes again today. And he will attend the government press conference this afternoon, where more clarity on football is expected this summer. Giske pressures Raja:

– I think if the government doesn’t find a solution, Storting will demand it.

– how?

– We order the government to find a solution. I hope we don’t get there. I think the signs are very clear, says the 53-year-old man, who sits on the Storting family and cultural committee.

– no guilt

The Minister of Culture and Gender Equality, Abid Raja, responds:

– Giske is free to promote his proposals at the Storting that he wants to open only for soccer, but he must also respond to industrial workers and everyone else about why he wants to prioritize the Elite series ahead of everyone else in the community. . You have to answer why you want to do that before we have the new advice from health authorities, Raja says.

– For me, this is an unfavorable favor. Football has big supporters behind it in both the opposition and the government, and we will open up as soon as warranted. But I want to stick to the principle of equality; We must treat people equally in this country, he adds.

VG Policy Editor Hanne B. Skartveit says the following about the Storting’s ability to influence the government on this issue:

– The measures are with the government, but the government must act in agreement with the parliamentary majority. This is not an issue facing a government crisis. If there is a proposal at the Storting, it remains to be seen if a majority can be obtained for it, she says.

Giske says:

– Of course, there should be infection control rules around top soccer performance, but the best clubs are surrounded by healthcare professionals. There is no healthy group in Norway that has more medical help than soccer players, says Giske, who notes that the best soccer players are also not in the highest risk group for obesity, cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure.

Giske believes that no one demands that the government cover the loss of the crown for the crown, but that Raja does the same job for footballers as for hairdressers, where they managed to set rules that will start the business.

– It doesn’t help any club that knows the offside rule, offside rules experts are usually off the field – on the sidelines, says Giske.

Raja asks if party leader Jonas Gahr Støre can step in and put Giske on the bench in this matter.

– I do not know if you have approved your representative proposal with the party leader Støre and if you will be allowed to propose a proposal in which Ap will force the health authorities to allow the Elite series to begin. Raja believes it is very surprising whether the Labor Party should put the Elite series ahead of safe and responsible infection prevention treatment.

– We, as a society, have invested a lot of money to control the pandemic. Norway is now in control, and we will gradually open up while maintaining control. I warn Støre not to let Giske decide what Ap thinks about this matter, says Raja.

– I think Raja can safely trust Ap to Ap, and rather focus on doing his job, Giske replies.

– Storting will not enter the rules against infection, but Storting may order Raja to insure football and sports during the crisis, as Storting has had to order Raja to do his job in the media sector he adds.
