The WHO director warns against divisions among the world’s countries in the fight against covid-19.
“The United States has long been a generous friend of the World Health Organization (WHO) and we hope that they continue to be,” Teodros Adhanom, among others, said during a press conference on Wednesday.
– We regret the president’s decision to stop funding for the organization.
The work comes after Donald Trump announced Tuesday that he is freezing funds for health care.
The President of the United States believes that WHO’s handling of the pandemic has lost thousands of lives. He accuses them of helping China to cover the spread of the virus.
According to Trump, monetary support will stop while the United States investigates the management.

Promises of independent review
WHO Director Adhanom warned on Wednesday that the virus could explode divisions across the country.
He also made it clear that WHO will be responsible for the use of resources entrusted to it by its member countries.
“Member states and external groups will initiate a review to ensure independence and transparency,” said Adhanom.
According to the director, this means that areas where improvement is needed will be discovered and included in the organization’s work.

– Don’t just fight the greedy
The WHO Director came during the press conference with a reminder of the organization’s role in the world:
– With the support of the government and the people, we are working to improve the health of many of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the country. Not only do we fight greed, but we also tackle polio, malaria, HIV, tuberculosis, malnutrition, cancer, diabetes, mental health and many other diseases, Adhanom said.
He also noted that WHO is working to improve the access of the world population to health services.
They will continue to do so, despite a drop in US funds, he says.
– We will now work with our partners to compensate for financial losses and ensure that work continues undisturbed.

He also stated that clinical trials of three vaccines have already started, while 70 vaccines are in development.
– Since its inception, WHO has been fighting the pandemic in full force. We will continue to do so to the end. It is our commitment to the world.
