Rosenborg and coach Eirik Horneland agree to an extension of their contract in 2021. The club reports Tuesday night.

– We think he does a good job after a difficult first year. It was a difficult start, but it got better and better, RBK President Ivar Koteng tells VG.

He says the RBK board met in the opinion that Horneland is the right man to lead Rosenborg and therefore should receive a contract extension.

– We believe that he is the right man for us and we are experiencing a good development. There was little discussion on the board. We spend some time telling partners, employees and players about this before we go out with the extension, says Koteng.

He says the reason it’s only a one-year extension is that there was a clause in Horneland’s contract, which said it could be extended for a year.

The RBK board met digitally, following the crown crisis, on Tuesday afternoon. Horneland is very satisfied.

– I am satisfied with the statement of confidence that the board has shown me, considering taking out the option contained in the agreement. RBK is a fantastic club, and together we will manage to preserve the legacy and take us back to the top, Horneland tells the club’s website.

Horneland arrived in Rosenborg before last year’s season and struggled at first. Last summer, however, the club struggled to make it to the Champions League. There, he stopped in the play-off match against Dinamo Zagreb in the final qualifying round before the group plays in the world’s most popular club tournament.

Koteng is aware that they did not consider kicking Horneland after his club had a bad start.

Finally, it was third place in the Elite series, but at the same time a losing series in the Europa League.

– We realized that there were very difficult working conditions. It made a very good impression. It didn’t seem to hit the field completely. But it is due to the frame conditions that were difficult, says Koteng.

Until now, Norwegian football has been suspended until June 15 due to the crown crisis. But experts believe it seems dark for Norwegian football to complete the season this year.

– We start with a little better training. Then we’ll see if one can gradually get closer to each other as soccer players and maybe play games in July, says Koteng.
