– At some point we have to take a calculated risk, says municipal chief Ingebjørn Bleidvin in the western municipality of Hadsel.

The Vesterålen and Lofoten city councils have agreed to the desire for a special quarantine rule.

They even are when they don’t want to extend it now.

Municipal Superintendent Ingebjørn Bleidvin in Hadsel believes there is no basis for extending the “quarantine” measure.

The reason is that a local infection has now been reported, and therefore the doctors conclude that Lofoten and Vesterålen are now in phase two of the pandemic.

“We realize that many people think we should continue with the measures, but phase two will no longer have any major impact,” says Bleidvin.

He believes this is in line with the advice of the Institute of Public Health. He also emphasizes that the measure has helped a lot and has bought the municipalities time.

– We are as prepared as we can be. We are no longer prepared to wait.

The municipality of Tromsø also withdraws the quarantine of April 20. This was stated by the municipality during the press conference on Tuesday. So far, travelers from Dovre and the south have been quarantined for 14 days when they arrived in Tromsø, to prevent transmission of the coronavirus.

Will not spread

In Sortland, Mayor Karl-Erling Nordlund is ready to stop the “quarantine”. According to him, there is a broad political consensus not to extend the measure, which really expires today.

– In this context, I do not plan a political treatment that will lead to the continuation of the “quarantine quarantine” for the municipality of Sortland, Nordlund tells Bladet Vesterålen.

Mayor Remi Solberg in the lofot municipality of Vestvågøy says the same is true.

– The resolution expires today and we consider that it is not natural to maintain the quarantine provisions as the current situation.

More cancellations

In the island municipality of Røst, west of Lofoten, the quarantine rule was repealed as early as Easter.

Værøy is the only municipality in Lofoten and Vesterålen where the rule seems to continue.

In the north of Nordland, the municipality of Narvik also eliminates the “quarantine quarantine” that applies to travelers who have been south of Dovre.

According to the Forward newspaper, the municipality expects a delivery of contamination equipment this week. Therefore, they are considered better prepared than a week ago.

– We believe that we have done all possible preparation. Both in terms of infection control equipment and other preparations. We are struggling to find professional arguments to continue, says Mayor Rune Edvardsen.

He does not believe that the new decision is of great practical importance because people travel so little.

continuous

The neighboring municipality of Evenes, in turn, wants to continue the rule until April 19. He adopted the presidency yesterday.

So far, no infection has been detected in the municipality.

– This quarantine provision has worked well to limit contagion to our area, says Mayor Terje Bartholsen.

The decision is in line with the recommendation of the municipal superior. However, Bartholsen is concerned that the regulations in Evenes and neighboring municipalities are as equal as possible.

– Until now, there has been a great deal of regional support for these quarantine provisions. Fixing it in the middle of Easter would come abruptly. We have already taken the initiative to coordinate with the region’s neighbors in the coming days.

It must be well justified

County Governor Elisabeth Vik Aspaker in Troms and Finnmark believes that any extension of the “quarantine” must be well justified.

At the Hammerfest in Finnmark, the quarantine provision also applies, but they are now looking into repealing it.

– No new case is planned for local quarantine rules for political treatment. That means they are valid until April 21, says Mayor Marianne Sivertsen Næss.

However, he adds that things may change before that.

The municipality of Tromsø adjusts its quarantine rules.
