Sarpsborg chief Espen Engebretsen responds to statements by Culture Minister Abid Raja (V) during the NRK “Debate” on Tuesday night.
Raja, American football president Terje Svendsen and Odds general manager Einar Handhandken participated in the debate program, and the minister urged football to “think about whether it is advisable to ask the state to cover the loss of sponsorship revenue.”
For that, Raja’s new hair dryer will receive from Sarpsborg CEO Espen Engebretsen:
– He was thin. Sponsor funds represent fifty percent of revenue. If the best clubs can forget about being covered, I say we have four legs: we sell media rights, we sell players, we sell tickets, kiosk items and support equipment, and we sell market packages. Since we have a “great theater” and attract people, it is interesting to buy advertising for the sport. I don’t understand why the lost sponsorship revenue should be more than just other industry revenue, the club manager tells VG.
It gives the Ministry of Culture an understanding that it was missing from the first rescue package targeted at sports, culture and volunteering.
But Engebretsen understands not why now a new package is not presented and that the alarm should have sounded in the ministry when sports organizations requested only a third of the sum of NOK 700 million.
According to Sarpsborg’s general manager, the club hired 08 number breakers of their own to identify points in “Raja’s help” they could search for, but found nothing. He especially likes how the Minister of Culture mentioned the sponsorship money in the NRK program.
– They were reduced to “kindness”. But this is a business. For the ski team to be the best in the world, they need a company that comes in and makes themselves visible to them. The same goes for handball players, handball players, and hockey players. In this city, Sarpsborg 08 is the greatest tool for companies that want to make themselves known, says Espen Engebretsen.
– When he (Raja) pointed out that Odd had requested NOK 250,000, but he really has a sponsorship budget of 40 million, we are not on the same planet in the discussion. Soccer or the best sports are not run like an industry. In the Elite series, the OBOS league and the Toppserien, we delivered more than two billion. This is a great store. Now, like all other industries, we must also be saved, since the State has entered and saved more. Sports must now be saved, Engebretsen continues.

Handshake over Raja: – I didn’t realize the operation of the club
In the NRK Debate, Raja compared, among other things, to the rest of working life:
“After all, we see 450,000 unemployed and laid off, and many profitable companies went from full operation to zero overnight,” said Raja.
VG faced him today with sponsorship revenue that is the biggest for soccer clubs.
– The state cannot offset all crowns by crowns. A third of Norway’s best clubs are organized so that they fall under the government’s cash support scheme. These clubs can apply on equal terms with the others to cover their unavoidable expenses, answers Abid Raja.
– Clubs can also leave and send the bill to the state. In addition, we will deal with those who are not under the cash support scheme through the ticket support scheme. We are working to adjust the facilities here so that we can meet more people, explains the Minister of Culture.
– A product that we sell
In the same NRK debate, Odds CEO Einar H handlykken participated. Through VG he came out against Raja’s crisis package last week.
– If the sponsorship money is considered a non-legitimate income, it is as if those with light hair are not counted as hairdressers. Only people with dark hair apply, Hand Luck images the day after the NRK show.
He asks about football and Raja talks to each other.
– It seems that there are gifts that we should not cover. Sponsor packages are a product we sell, just as some sell bread and milk. What they get is a relationship and marketing tool for the public. If they get more sales on this, they will come back. We sell tickets to our audience and television visibility to businesses, says Odd’s manager.
– And most people think commercially. Some use the heart. But we are competing with TV 2 and VG or other commercial networks for advertising dollars.
NFF: – Serious
The Norwegian Football Association (NFF) has released that the sport needs NOK 600 million to overcome the crown crisis, divided equally between peak and width. For the debate between club leaders and culture minister, NFF chief communications officer Gro Tvedt Anderssen says:
– It is not even against sponsorship income. Actually, it is as simple as that without activity, income is not lost. When the packages do not arrive and the account is soon empty, now it is a very serious situation for several clubs. To ensure the future of the clubs, the packages must be adjusted, he urges.
Raja earlier opened the adjustments, and repeated it in “The Debate” on Tuesday.
– For the commercial package, it is about compensating for declining billings and avoidable fixed costs, just like for other industries. Also, clubs that do business are covered by the packages. That one of the top three clubs can apply is like “Cutters can apply, but not Nikita,” says NFF’s director of communications.
