No Man’s Sky Desolation: Free Horror-Themed Update Revealed

Hello Games has revealed No Man’s Sky:

Desolation, an upcoming free horror-themed update that adds abandoned freighters full of salvage and alien threats, and is available today. Desolation will dump abandoned freighters across the in-game galaxy – players can choose to break their airlocks (solo or co-op) and explore what awaits inside. Freighter interiors will be procedurally generated and will include both handwritten and generated ship records that tell the stories of how they came to be abandoned. Each is packed with potential rescues, including upgrades for their own capital ships that can only be obtained from abandoned freighters, and the technology it will rescue will still resemble the ship it took, meaning your ship will tell the stories of where has been visually

But walking away with those updates won’t necessarily be easy. Risks within abandoned ships can range, from coded defense systems, to environmental hazards, to alien infestations.

The series has generally been based on the optimistic science fiction of the 70s and 80s, but Desolation resembles Ridley Scott’s Alien. “Being a little dot between the stars can bring a sense of wonder and awe,” the press release explains, “but we’ve always wanted to explore a little more those feelings of fear and dread that come from being alone in the depths of Terror. facing the unknown, or the dawn understanding that you are treading in the footsteps of those who encountered a lonely ending on the edge of the universe – it’s a rich sci-fi tradition, and one that doesn’t really touch on No Man’s Sky – until now “.

The update will also add balance changes for weapons and enemies, plus modified effects and weaponry feel for a better combat experience. It also comes with a number of quality of life improvements.

It has already been a busy year for NMS, after the game implemented full crossover play, it came to Xbox Game Pass and, most importantly, added mechs.
