Citizens Stephen Strasburg missed the start of the season with a nerve problem in his right hand, but it did not last long. The reigning World Series MVP made his debut for the season last Sunday, though the Orioles made him rough for five deserved runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings. It appears that Strasburg may not have been on much strength during that outing, as manager Dave Martinez on Wednesday (via Byron Kerr of MASNsports.com) revealed that the 32-year-old is still engaged in tingling in his hand. “I was a little worried,” allowed Martinez, who added that “We will definitely have to keep an eye on it.” Strasburg’s plan for Friday again against Baltimore, at least for now.
- Oft-wounded Mets infielder Jed Lowrie will undergo injections into his injured left knee, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com tweets. The Mets will not have a timeline for a potential 2020 debut for Lowrie until they see how those injections affect him. At this point, however, it’s clear that the Mets cannot count on Lowrie emerging as a reinforcement of the late season. The club’s decision to sign him on a two-year, $ 20MM contract for 2019 has been an abject failure, as Lowrie has appeared just nine games since.
- De Braves do not expect a second baseman Ozzie Albies as first baseman Matt Adams to return next week, manager Brian Snitker said Wednesday (via David O’Brien of The Athletic). Both players have been on the injured list since August 5 (Albies for a wrist issue, Adams for a hamstring problem), although Albies is obviously the most important member of the club. After all, Albies turned in great seasons in 2018 and ’19 as a full-time timer in the Braves lineup. They went in the first place Johan Camargo en Adeiny Hechavarria at the arts in the absence of Albies.
- Southpaw reliever Sam Freeman left the Citizens loss to the Mets on Wednesday with a flexor strain, Britt Ghiroli of The Athletic relays. There is “A level of care” about the injury, per Martinez, especially since Freeman underwent Tommy John surgery in the past. Freeman, who signed the Nats in a minor league contract in free agency, has five scoreless innings for them this year.
