Nintendo is “a jewel” in the industry and has the best first-party pedigree, says Xbox Boss

Animal Talking Phil Spencer

Hollywood screenwriter and one-time game journalist Gary Whitta has some cool guests on hand Animal Crossing-themed Twitch show Animal Talking, and the latest episode featured one of gaming’s most high-profile executives – Phil Spencer of Xbox.

Spencer has made no secret of his respect for Nintendo in the past, and, as you might imagine, had a lot of fun things to say about the Kyoto veteran during his time on the show.

He took time to praise the fact that Nintendo considers the whole gaming experience as it does something:

… the pure thing about what Nintendo does is that they think about games, and they think about their hardware and their platform all as one thing, and build those experiences – and I know the teams there pretty well – and I like it magically the way they can create a complete Nintendo experience on their devices, and this experience I see here, in my hands, on my Switch, is Anoimal Crossing. From the Switch it runs to the game itself to the way you go to other islands of nations …

Spencer also said that the sector “must protect” Nintendo, because the company is ‘masterful’ in what it does:

In entertainment companies you know, most things do not turn out to be big successes, so there should always be some surprises, but Nintendo is just masterful about what they do, and I’ve said it before, I think they have the strongest family tree of the first party and strength, and they are a jewel for us in the games industry and something we must protect.

Spencer has said a lot of nice things about Nintendo in the past, but unfortunately it does not seem that his admiration for the company will get us Game Pass on Switch at any moment. Boo.
