Nine other NBA players tested positive for the coronavirus last week, the league announced Thursday.
The nine positive tests found between June 24 and 29 bring the grand total to 25 players out of a group of 351 who have been evaluated since June 23. Sixteen players tested positive last week.
The NBA also said that 10 of the 884 team staff members tested were positive for the coronavirus.
Anyone who tests positive for the coronavirus will remain in self-isolation until they comply with public health protocols and are cleared by a physician.
The NBA season will resume on July 30 with 22 teams participating in Orlando, Florida. Training camps will take place from July 9 to 29, with three games per team.
Commissioner Adam Silver earlier this week said the NBA is evaluating players on a daily basis and that he remains “pretty sure” about the league’s plan to resume play safely.
“One thing we are learning about this virus is a lot [is] unpredictable, and we and our players along with their union review the data daily, “Silver said.” If there was anything to change that was outside the scope of what we are playing, we would definitely revisit our plans.
“We are conducting tests on a daily basis. We have not established a precise number, but if we had to see a large number of cases and see the spread in our community, that, of course, would be a cause to stop as well.”
In addition to hosting players and support staff from 22 teams at three Walt Disney World resorts, the league has organized seven practice fields and is playing games in three arenas during quarantine. It also provides meals, daily coronavirus testing, and other medical, security, transportation, and entertainment support for more than 1,500 people during the height of the event.
