Nine Chinese families die after eating poisonous noodles


Nine members of the same family in China died after eating spoiled noodles that had been kept in the freezer for nearly a year, officials said.

The family, living in Heilongjiang in the northeastern province, ate homemade corn noodles for breakfast on Oct. October, according to The Independent, citing government-run media reports.

Noodles made from fermented corn flour are a common dish of the region.

But hours after the boom, noodle drinkers fell ill, the report said.

Eight of them were confirmed dead by October 11, and a ninth member was hospitalized but eventually died on Monday, the outlet report said.

The cause of his death was poisoning with bonggraic acid, respiratory poisoning was found in the noodles, which had been stable for several months, the outlet said.

Gao Fei, director of food safety at the Heilongjiang Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said the toxins can often be fatal.

“It causes severe damage to many human organs, including the liver, kidneys, heart and brain,” Gao said. “Currently, there is no special antidote. Once poisoned, mortality can be as high as 40 to 100 percent. “

The National Health Commission issued a warning on Tuesday to avoid making and eating foods made from fermented rice and flour, according to a report run by China Daily.

“Using fresh and unhealthy foods and changing the water while making food may reduce the risk of contamination, but for safe problems it is best to avoid making and eating foods made from fermented grains,” the advisors said.
