Canadian rockers NICKELBACK have a cover of THE CHARLIE DANIELS BAND classic “The Devil Went to Georgia”, along with an accompanying music video. Eare Daniels, who died last month, NICKELBACK invited guitarist Dave Martone to take part in a cover of the infamous classic story – pay tribute to Danielshis influence on their careers and the legacy left behind.
From the cover, NICKELBACK‘s Chad Kroeger shares: “Charlie Daniels seamlessly fused country, southern rock, western swing, blues and bluegrass in a sound and style all its own. More importantly, his ability to tell compelling and relatable stories through his songwriting has held me back to this day. Not more so then ‘The devil went to Georgia’. I was only five years old when that song came out and it remains one of my favorites of all time. A few years ago, we recorded a rough recording during a studio session with our good friend Dave Martone. It was a fun song to capture and bring back so many good memories for all of us. When Charlie last month, the world lost a music icon. I hope our version brings half as much fun as its done for me and so many others. “
The cover, produced by NICKELBACK, and with all four NICKELBACK members (Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, Daniel Adair), along with modern guitar hero Dave Martone is now available everywhere.
The original song is disabled Daniels‘s 1979 album “Million Mile Reflections”. The song tells the story of a fiddle-playing man by name Johnny who is challenged by the Devil to a fiddle match. As Johnny wins, he gets the golden fiddle; if he loses, the Devil gets his soul.
Last month, GRAIN released its own cover of “The Devil Went to Georgia”, with a guest appearance of rapper YelaWolf.
As previously reported NICKELBACK‘s “All The Right Reasons: 15th Anniversary Expanded Edition” will be released on October 2 as a two-CD set and will also be available digitally on all streaming platforms. The collection features a newly remastered version of the original 2005 album, a selection of B-sides and a 2006 live concert recording.
NICKELBACKthe third consecutive number 1 album, “All good Reasons” tops the charts in native Canada, the US, UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand. To date, it has sold more than 19 million copies worldwide and is diamond certified by the RIAA. The album produced seven singles, including five Top 20 hits: “Photo”, “Savin ‘Me”, “Far away”, “Rock star” en “If everyone cared”.
Chad Kroeger told The pulse of radio a while back he did not know the formula NICKELBACKthe success. “I used to think I knew how to help another band achieve success, and I don’t think I knew that anymore,” he said. “I mean, that’s what every record company is looking for, right? How do we get a band to be as successful as we can? There’s just something about four guys coming together, making music and getting on the stage and they play their heart out for their fans … sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. ”
