Wendy’s New Zealand CEO Danielle Lendich said the rule-breaking cases she had seen were shocking.
“The government has made it quite clear that it is not supposed to have contact,” he said.
“Some of the great players seem to think that operating a drive-thru as it was was acceptable.”
Authorities are now warning that he can take action if necessary.
WorkSafe chief inspector general Jo-Ann Pugh said she has the ability to close a business in the most serious cases.
“We have an agreement with the police where we will go to the police and actually close a business,” he said.
Ms. Pugh said other actions, such as a conversation, issuing improvement notices, verbal warnings, and directives came first.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern emphasized today that the application of the law was serious.
“We hope that the standards are respected by those who now have a responsibility to keep everyone safe when they are trading,” he said.
“Not only do we have the police, but of course our labor inspection.”
