Just when you thought we’d seen all the cooking tricks under the sun, a woman in America has served up possibly the strangest one yet: cooking steak in a toaster.
But before you’re tempted to try their method at home (which works exactly as it sounds), you may want to heed this expert warning.
Appliances Online resident expert Colin Jones said that cooking raw meat in a toaster could not only cause you food poisoning, but could also pose a serious hazard in your kitchen.
“Cooking any raw food in a toaster is not only a health risk, it could also create a fire hazard with the potential for oils and fats to create a flame,” he told news.com.au.
“As a toaster is designed primarily for cooking bread and not raw food, oils and fats will void the toaster warranty and could damage it.
“Plus, because it would be difficult to clean, you could also risk cross-contamination by putting raw food in a toaster and then reusing it.”
In the video, which has been viewed more than four million times, Juliette (@ itsmeju1iette) placed two pieces of raw meat in the toaster to cook.
After the meat was lightly toasted, he scooped out both chunks, slathering one of them in sauce before dipping it into the still very pink fillet.
His post received tens of thousands of comments, with one person joking that “they had just seen a crime happen.”
“I did this today! Now I’m in the hospital,” another person joked.
“Google, how do you delete someone else’s video?” Read another comment.
But others didn’t see anything funny about it, saying it was equally “disturbing and disgusting.”
“How to get salmonella 101,” wrote one person.
“How the hell are you going to clean that toaster? Throw it away and buy a new one every time,” said another.
