An Auckland woman must leave her rental property after breaking into her neighbor’s house and sitting on his bed while he slept.
The owner of the Papatoetoe property, The Rent Shop, brought the incident to the rental court against Kushbu Priya Singh and her mother Shiu Kumari Singh.
The Rent Shop requested the termination of the lease immediately due to Kushbu Singh’s antisocial behavior, which was scaring the neighbors.
Neighbors on both sides of the Sean Fitzpatrick Place rental agreed that Kushbu Singh had yelled at them in the past and, on May 16, spat at one of the neighbors.
Court judge Toni Prowse said the spitting was particularly concerning given the country was in a Level 3 lockdown at the time.

One of the neighbors, identified by the court as “K Singh” (unrelated to the tenants), faced the brunt of the harassment, Prowse said.
Kushbu Singh had sent emails to his workplace falsely accusing him of physically abusing women.
The emails sent to K Singh’s workplace were “deeply troubling,” Prowse said, and seemed designed to ensure that K Singh got into trouble and lost his job.
K Singh said that as a result of the emails, he was investigated, which was embarrassing and distressing.
The biggest concern for Prowse was security footage showing Kushbu Singh climbing out of an open window at K Singh’s home late at night on September 25.
K Singh said that he had been asleep at the time and was awakened by Kushbu Singh sitting on his bed. He grabbed his phone, recorded what happened next, and showed it to the court.
In the recording, he repeatedly tells Kushbu Singh to get out of his house and asks him what he is doing.
She refuses to leave her room until the police are called.
Kushbu Singh denied acting in a way that caused discomfort to his neighbors and instead blamed K Singh and his roommates for having parties with loud music.
The theft incident was “an egregious violation of Singh’s comfort, peace and privacy in his home,” Prowse said.
“It left him feeling very stressed, vulnerable and scared of what Ms. Singh might do next.
“Neighbors told me they felt stressed and unsafe. They have both had to install cameras on their property for safety and there have been repeated calls to the police when they are concerned for their safety.
Prowse granted immediate termination of the lease.
