A young woman who died in a car accident in Central Otago was on her way home after celebrating her birthday in Queenstown.
Kirsty Samantha Moffett, 28, from Northern Ireland, died at the crash site on State Highway 8 in Roxburgh on Sunday, December 13.
Sam Moffett said his daughter celebrated her birthday on Friday, December 11, and that she had traveled to Queenstown for a weekend paragliding and mountain hiking.
He was traveling home to Dunedin, where he had lived since April 2019, when his car was struck by another vehicle.
Kirsty had a true sense of adventure. Kirsty always dreamed of traveling to New Zealand … She loved the country and in particular the lifestyle it had to offer.

Moffett said her daughter, a qualified physical therapist, had quickly adjusted to life in Dunedin: she worked at Dunedin Hospital, attended a local church, and joined a running club.
“His infectious smile, warm personality and connection to people developed a network of friends and associates.”
Growing up, she was quiet and reserved, but had an attitude of excellence in everything she tried, she said.
“His educational and athletic accomplishments are testament to his unwavering determination to succeed in everything he would do. She was brave and vivacious, passionately pursuing her dreams, and very sure of her purpose. “
Moffett said his daughter was an avid athlete and a talented musician who played the piano and saxophone.
“He had a beautiful voice that used to lead others in worship in his local church congregation.”
Above all, he demonstrated a strong Christian faith from his formative years, he said.
“All other activities took a back seat to his faith, but this in no way diminished his achievements.”
Her family took comfort in knowing that she was loved by so many people, all over the world and that so many people touched her life, the way she touched theirs, she said.
A 49-year-old woman from Central Otago has been accused of using a motor vehicle carelessly while driving on the wrong part of the road. He will reappear in Alexandra District Court on February 17.
