A woman died after sustaining serious injuries in a boating incident in Auckland’s Waitematā harbor tonight.
The ship was a chartered ship carrying approximately 30 passengers. He had left the viaduct this afternoon.
A spokesman for the New Zealand Coast Guard said two people on the rented boat “fell overboard.” They were later recovered from the water.
A witness who observed the incident from shore said the vessel involved was a 15-meter (50-foot) white motorboat and that maritime police had spent more than an hour near the vessel.
A North Shore Coast Guard ship was dispatched to the incident while a second Coast Guard ship towed the chartered ship back to port.
A police spokeswoman said police and Maritime NZ were working together to understand the circumstances that led to the woman’s injuries.
The spokeswoman said victim support is being provided for the other passengers on the ship.
