The weather gods are smiling at this year’s Wings Over Wairarapa air show in Masterton with a nearly perfect three-day weather forecast.
Friday’s practice day saw several thousand Wairarapa students attend the first day of the biennial event held at Hood Airfield.
The people of Wellington were treated to an airshow of five Harvard World War II fighter training planes over all major population centers in the region on Friday afternoon.
The weather on Saturday was shaping up to be equally accommodating with mostly good spells, light winds, and a high of 28.

The American B-52 Stratofortress bomber is scheduled to make an aerial flight at Wings Over Wairarapa 2021.
The day’s program was to begin with aerial displays of Air Force NH90 helicopters and end the morning’s program with displays of a fleet of WWI fighters.
At 1 p.m., one of the stars of the weekend’s lineup, a USAF Boeing B-52 Stratofortress bomber was due to make a flight over the runway.
The huge American plane will not land in New Zealand, but it has made a special trip to liven up the air show.
Sunday’s forecast is “good, except for morning clouds, light winds and afternoon northeast winds.”
