A series of water problems has hit Wellington once again, as muddy silt flowed down an Island Bay street and sewage in Lower Hutt could be seen pouring out of a damaged pipeline.

Derwent St in Island Bay, Hamstead St in Wainuiomata and Hill Rd in Lower Hutt’s Belmont had water outages Friday. In the afternoon, workers were called to a damaged sewage pipe in Stokes Valley.

These water problems come after a “very critical” sewage pipe in the city of Wellington broke, blocking traffic and forcing residents to avoid flushing water for two days.

A water outage was affecting residents on Island Bay's Derwent St on Friday. Work is underway on nearby Moselle St to fix the problem.

The sewage was leaking from the pipeline but was contained within the contractors’ job site.

The city-controlled organization said residents of Hamstead St had their water cut resolved at 10:30 a.m.

On Thursday, Aro Valley residents gathered in amazement when a torrential volume of water blew 20 meters into the air.

On Friday, a Wellington Water spokesman said it had made good progress in repairing the exploded drinking water pipeline at Aro St.

“The gravel and debris that was scattered around Aro St due to the magnitude of the explosion has been cleaned up,” the spokesman said.

A huge fountain erupted in the Aro Valley sending torrents of water down Aro Street on Thursday.

“As the potable water main that burst is a duplicate supply line that has been isolated, there will be no service impact to customers or the network overnight while our service teams complete the repair and restoration of the road surface “.

Debris and silt from the bust made its way through the stormwater network to the Te Aro sewer and was discharged onto the Taranaki dive platform, creating a column in the port, the spokesperson said.

“Since the main potable water pipeline has been closed and repairs are underway, the plume has dissipated with our service teams installing environmental controls to prevent any additional discharge of sediment or debris into the port from the construction site. .
