“I like to enjoy the stupidity more,” commented one person.

Wanihi did not give any reason why he or his wife had any reason to be exempt from wearing a mask in the mail.

The post has gone viral with thousands of comments separating the couple for their “bragging.”

“Selfish scum. Delusional and stupid – a winning combination,” said one person.

Wanihi appears to be enjoying the attention, often responding to comments denying the severity of the pandemic.

“People are dying, yes,” he responded to a comment.

“What is the recovery rate at the national and international level? Of the percentage of deaths, what were their age categories and medical history? [sic]”

This was quickly criticized as a “rude” attitude in the responses.

“Does it matter?” a woman answered.

“They were innocent people who died alone in a hospital bed from a preventable disease. Medical history doesn’t matter when you might be wearing a mask and saving lives.”

The coronavirus pandemic has claimed more than 848,000 lives worldwide.

Despite being active in the comment thread, Wanihi did not respond to Newshub’s request for comment.

A police spokesman told Newshub that face covers should be worn on public transportation; However, the government’s COVID-19 website says that drivers and transportation officials will not stop those who refuse to board, as some people may have legitimate reasons not to use one.

A Metlink spokesperson told Newshub that it follows the government’s advice, which makes clear that staff are not expected to risk their own health and safety by enforcing the use of masks.

“Ultimately, it is up to passengers to make the right decisions, for their own safety and the safety of others.”
