Wellington High School Police after receiving a “credible threat”.
Wellington High School was locked up for about an hour Thursday morning after police said it received a “credible threat” on social media.
A student has revealed how he tipped off the school about an alleged shooter targeting Wellington High’s LGBTQI + community.
The student’s father confirmed that his son had expressed serious concerns about another teenager, not from the school, who was planning a shooting at the school.
The shooting was reportedly planned for 2021, but this was advanced after messages sent by the alleged shooter were relayed to school personnel, the student said.
Neither police nor the school have confirmed a link between the student’s information and Thursday’s shutdown.
Police have said the shutdown was in response to threats made on social media and that they were speaking to two people in connection with the incident.
Things has seen Instagram messages between the alleged shooter and another person.
Those posts said he planned to share the incident on Facebook: “Can’t wait, I’m so excited.”
His public Instagram page, which has since been removed, featured images of white supremacists.
Among the posts was a photo of the Christchurch mosque shooter, posted Thursday morning, as well as a rifle and bullets in someone’s hand, posted the night before.
Another student from the school said Things the alleged shooter had been posting on social media about having a gun and bullets and being a “Nazi.”

Earlier on Thursday, Wellington High principal Dominic Killalea posted on Facebook that police had received a “credible threat” to the school and the school asked the students to remain in class Thursday.
“All students, staff and people on site are well taken care of. They all did very well and responded to instructions.”
“I would like to personally thank you for your support and trust during this difficult time.”
Wellington Central MP Grant Robertson posted on social media saying he was sending “aroha” to Wellington High School.
“This is a difficult time, but I know Dominic and the team are always concerned about the well-being of the students, especially LGBTQI. And we must all stand firm against intolerance and hatred, ”he wrote.
Three police cars were parked outside the school on Taranaki St Thursday morning, some with armed police inside.
Previously, the school’s Facebook page said that there was a “situation” at the school and that all entry and exit points were closed. The exams continued. “We will continue to provide updates on our website as soon as we learn more.

One student said she came to school but was unable to get in on Thursday morning.
