Another late-night snowfall is slated to descend overnight on the South Island Alpine passes.

MetService warns that Fiordland’s Milford Rd could feel the brunt of a bitter front this afternoon, with Canterbury’s Arthur’s Pass following.

Up to 4 cm of snow is likely to accumulate on the upper roads until tomorrow morning.

Porters Pass and Lindis Pass must have a 1-2 cm layer.

Snow is expected to briefly affect Crown Range Rd near the summit tonight.
