Police say a man who was seriously injured in an assault at Wattle Downs remains in critical but stable condition.

Police have a positive lead in their investigations into the serious assault on a man in South Auckland, just days before Christmas.

A man was seriously injured and left in critical condition, needing surgery, after an assault on Glenross Drive in Wattle Downs on December 23.

The incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. and more than one criminal is believed to have been involved, police said.

Manukau Counties CIB Detective Inspector Chris Barry said the man remains in critical but stable condition at the hospital.

“The police are following positive lines of investigation and keeping an open mind while establishing the circumstances of the incident and its motive.”

Anyone who has witnessed this incident or who has information that may aid the investigation and who has not yet spoken to police is urged to come forward, he said.
