Warm temperatures continue across the country, but rain is expected

Most of the country enjoys warm and sunny weather with temperatures higher than usual this weekend.

But MetService has issued a severe weather advisory for Fiordland and South Westland.

A heavy rain warning was in effect for Fiordland from 1 p.m. Sunday, which can cause streams and rivers to swell and cause surface flooding. MetService predicted that between 60 and 80 mm of rain will accumulate.

However, a large part of the South Island has felt temperatures more than 8 degrees Celsius above normal, according to WeatherWatch.

All of New Zealand was warmer than average, but some areas were not as warm as Saturday, where Timaru hit 28C and Christchurch 27C, due to increased cloud cover and a slight change in winds.

Overall, the eastern areas of the North Island and upper South Island had the best chances of mostly good weather over the next week.

Auckland was also expected to have reasonable weather in late spring, with highs of around 20 degrees from Saturday, and likely showers on Monday and isolated showers the rest of the week, according to MetService.

The forecast for Wellington included many winds from the north. The city is not expected to hit 20 ° C over the next week, with only a few showers forecast for Monday.

As of Wednesday rain and strong winds from the south are forecast.

MetService predicted warm weather in Christchurch will continue with predicted highs of 25 ° C on Monday and 24 ° C on Tuesday. However, rain was forecast for Wednesday and Thursday, along with a temperature drop to 15 ° C on Thursday.

After the hammering of heavy rains, Napier looked set for a good week with developing rains by Thursday.
