Images from 2018 showing U.S. presidential candidate Joe Biden consoling family members after a mass murder has resurfaced and is being widely shared, amid concerns by some Democrats that the election could be closer than polls indicate .
The enthusiastic reception of the images comes just before the final debate between Biden and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, which will begin at 2 p.m. Friday (NZT).
The AP reported that with less than two weeks until Election Day, Biden leads most national polls, but has a narrower lead in battlefield states that could decide the race.
By Friday morning (NZT), Biden’s images, resurfaced by Democratic political operative Arun Chaudhary, had been shared nearly 10 million times.

“I am one of those who fears that the elections are much closer than the polls indicate. That in a world where Democrats never target non-voters, a large turnout could contain crowds. So I’m going to leave some old Joe Biden footage here, ”Chaudhary tweeted.
The footage shows Biden speaking to victims and family members after the mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 people were killed and 17 injured.
Say hello to Debra Hixon, the widow of Chris Hixon, one of the three coaches who died trying to save the students from the gunman.
As Biden walks away, an off-camera voice can be heard saying, “I wanted to …” Biden turns around and is hugged by Hixon’s son Corey, who tells him, “I’m his son.”
Joe Biden campaigned in Michigan last Friday, followed by a Donald Trump rally on Saturday night.
Biden thanks Corey for hugging him and kisses his forehead. He asks Corey if he’s okay, and when he shakes his head, Biden says, “You’ll be okay. We’ll be okay. We’ll be okay, I promise.”
Newsweek reported that the images also appeared in a Fellow Americans campaign video and were shared by politician and gun control advocate Gabrielle Giffords. The video showed Debra and Corey Hixon reflecting on Biden’s actions and what it meant to them.
Debra Hixon said, “I don’t have it many times to give [Corey] that consolation. So it meant a lot that someone else gave him: take that time and care enough for him. My oldest son calls him Uncle Joe. He can be that person who can comfort our nation and bring us together. “
Many people have re-tweeted Chaudhary’s post, which has also had 1,600 comments.
