A man died after an accident at an ultralight location near the Kaitoke airstrip on Monday.
A joint investigation is underway between police and the Civil Aviation Authority after a man was killed when an ultralight plane crashed near an airstrip in Upper Hutt on Monday.
Police received a report around 1.50pm Monday that a plane had been seen crashing near the Kaitoke airstrip. The plane crashed into a bush, killing its sole occupant, whom police have named Loren David Nolan, 46, of Trentham.
A CAA spokeswoman said two investigators were dispatched to the site where the remains were recovered and transported them to safety on Tuesday.
“The investigation is still in its early stages and, as part of that process, the CAA will seek to establish information about the pilot, where the aircraft departed from and where it was headed … Accidents about the accident, ”he said.

The airstrip is home to the Upper Valley Gliding Club, which could not be reached on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Kāpiti Districts Aero Club said they knew little about the accident.
In 2016, two people escaped injuries after a small plane they were in crashed near “a small grassy airstrip” at Kaitoke Regional Park in Upper Hutt.
