Police are looking for a person who intentionally rammed a police speed camera vehicle and a police patrol vehicle near Murupara in the Bay of Plenty today.

Police say a person driving a silver Ford Ranger intentionally collided with a police speed camera vehicle parked on Daniel Street in the Kaingaroa Forest around 10:30 a.m.

The operator of the vehicle with the speed camera was unhurt and called for help immediately, police say.

Shortly after, a police patrol caught up with the ute and tried to stop the car. The driver stopped, but then began deliberately ramming the cruiser before attempting to accelerate.

Police say there was a chase, but it was quickly abandoned due to the nature of the criminals’ driving, and the driver attempted to ram the patrol car again as they escaped.

The police eagle helicopter deployed from Auckland and found the vehicle abandoned on property in the Kaingaroa forest.

Police continue to investigate to identify and locate the person involved.

The police would like anyone who has witnessed a silver Ford Ranger Ute in the vicinity of the Kaingaroa forest today to contact the police on 105 and cite event number P043468128.
