Any national legislator can nominate someone for the Nobel Peace Prize.
The process of considering candidates and awarding the prize is done in Norway, unlike the other Nobel prizes, which are awarded in neighboring Sweden. Nominations must be submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee before February 1.
The Norwegian Nobel Committee does not comment publicly on the nominees. According to its rules, information must be kept secret for 50 years.
“Now it is hoped that the Nobel Committee will be able to consider what Trump has achieved internationally and not bump into the established prejudice against the president of the United States,” Tybring-Gjedde said in a Facebook post.
Israel and the United Arab Emirates will sign their historic agreement to normalize relations in a ceremony at the White House on September 15, officials said Tuesday.
