President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have spoken for the first time since news of their victory broke.

The couple took the stage at Biden’s campaign headquarters in Delaware.

Helen Clark is among the leaders and public figures who have praised the couple for their speeches.

In a tweet he said “inspirational words from President-elect Joe Biden.”

“Healing skills are a rare commodity as the new president works to rule for all and unify the nation. He calls for demonization to end here and now and to put harsh rhetoric aside,” he wrote.

Harris first took the stage where he paid tribute to the late Congressman John Lewis, who said, “Democracy is not a state, it is an act.”

Harris said that meant protecting democracy.

“We the people have the power to build a better future.”

He said that “the soul of the United States was at stake.”

“You ushered in a new day for America.”

Biden ran on stage and hit Harris with two fists before removing his mask to address the crowd.

“The people of this nation have spoken. They have delivered us a clear victory, a compelling victory, a victory for us the people.”

“Tonight we are seeing throughout this nation, indeed throughout the world, an outpouring of joy … I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me.”

After the two speeches, they joined their families on stage and the event ended with an impressive fireworks display.

“Did you notice that @JoeBiden didn’t say anything bad about ANYONE in his speech?” Jones wrote on Twitter.

“This is a new leadership style. But it is new because it is classic. Because it is timeless. Because it is inclusive.”

Basketball superstar Magic Johnson praised Kamala Harris for her speech, calling it a “powerful message for America.”

Hillary Clinton, who took office from Trump in the 2016 election, called today’s result “a repudiation of Trump and a new page for the United States.”

“It is a ticket that makes history,” he wrote.

“Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. Go ahead together.”
