There’s so much more than the standard hump day celebrations keeping entertainment venues alive tonight, with live broadcasts of the US Presidential election bringing a whole new buzz to Auckland’s bars.

The bustling access points in the viaduct area have been showing the elections on the big screen this afternoon and will continue to do so for the remainder of the night.

Several people had settled into the viaduct bar headquarters to watch the election results roll in, and while most were indifferent to the election as a whole, they still had opinions on who they would like to see win.

Stephen Cohen, a 66-year-old certified public accountant, said that while he’s not overly interested in US politics, he hopes “Biden will come in.”

One man said that while he agreed with some of Donald Trump’s policies, he believed him to be a “hideous person.”

In Gray Lynn, the local Hoppers Garden Bar on Ponsonby Rd was home to several jubilant Trump supporters in MAGA caps.

Jerahl Hughes, a 31-year-old British hospitality worker, wore his hat with pride.

“I’m pretty sure Trump is going to win,” he said.

Hughes said he was “never interested in politics until Donald Trump took office” and began supporting the current president of the United States because he is “against socialism” and focuses on “boosting the economy and creating more jobs. “.

His friend, an American who was also wearing a crimson cap from ‘Make America Great Again’, said he was “pretty sure” he would celebrate tonight.

And yet, despite the strong MAGA presence, there were still some pub goers hoping for a victory for the Democratic Party.

“It’s shocking that it’s not a landslide for Biden,” said one man.

“It makes me lose faith in humanity. Can’t people see the damage Donald Trump has done? ”

It’s a mixed bag when it comes to favorite candidates, but some are just waiting for the scandal to end.

A man at Headquarters, when asked if he supported any of the parties, said he “would not want to vote for any of them.”

“I can’t wait for this to end,” he said.
