Two members of police staff continue to undergo medical evaluations at the hospital after being seriously injured at the Rotorua Police Station custody center.
They were injured around 11:40 a.m. Thursday after a man in custody became aggressive while escorting him to the bathroom, Bay of Plenty district commander said, Superintendent Andy McGregor said.
“One of the police personnel was knocked unconscious,” McGregor said.
“In an attempt to immobilize the man, police personnel deployed an OC spray that proved ineffective. They then used a taser gun and were finally able to immobilize the man.
