Two people were injured, one of whom was hospitalized, in a house fire in central Auckland.
A northern fire communications spokesman said they were called to Chatfield Place in Remuera at 10.30 am after “multiple reports” of a house fire.
Fire crews arrived and found the house engulfed in flames, he said.
St John confirmed that they treated two people in moderate condition.
One of them has been transferred to Auckland City Hospital, still in moderate condition.
The nature of his injuries has not been revealed.
Several residents have stepped out into the cul-de-sac to watch firefighters attack the blaze.
A police spokeswoman said officers were not at the scene at this time.
“That could change if it helps with traffic management.”
A staff member from nearby Cluny Kindergarten on Victoria Ave said: “I heard a lot of sirens and was wondering what was going on.”
Looking out towards Chatfield Place, he said the sky was clear blue and there was no sign of smoke.
By 11 a.m., the fire was out.
Firefighters remain in place, cushioning critical points.
