One person is in critical condition and another is seriously injured after a car accident near Mt Hutt, Canterbury.
Police were called to the accident at the intersection of Leaches Rd and Rakaia Gorge Rd in Windwhistle, Selwyn, at 1.23 pm on Friday.

St John’s spokesman Gerard Campbell initially said that two people were seriously injured and that two rescue helicopters from Christchurch had been dispatched to the scene.
Just after 3 p.m., Campbell said a helicopter arrived at Christchurch Hospital and the person carrying it was demoted from critical to serious condition.
He confirmed that the second helicopter left the scene shortly after 3:15 p.m. with a seriously injured person.
New Zealand Fire and Emergency spokesman Brent Dunn said one person had to be cut from their vehicle.
Dunn said three crews responded to the accident, but all had left by 3:10 p.m.
Simon Duncan, general manager of Garden City Helicopters, which provides the Westpac rescue helicopter, confirmed that two rescue helicopters with paramedics were dispatched to the accident.
The accident was the second at Selwyn on Friday. At around 10:45 a.m., a motorcyclist was assumed to have been seriously injured when he was involved in a truck accident in Prebbleton, 17 kilometers southwest of Christchurch.
