There are two new Covid-19 cases in the community today, and one case in managed isolation.

The Health Ministry provided the latest update this afternoon, without a press conference at 1:00 p.m.

One case has been linked as a close contact to the Americold household subgroup and the other is a close contact from a confirmed case linked to the Mount Roskill Evangelical Church subgroup.

There are 77 people linked to the community group remaining in the Auckland quarantine facility, which includes 60 people who have tested positive for Covid-19.

There is also a new case in isolation managed today: a young child linked to a previously identified case that arrived from India on 23 August. As a result, the boy was already quarantined with family members at the Auckland quarantine facility.

There are currently two people in the hospital who are being treated for Covid-19: one in the North Shore Hospital general ward and one in the Waikato Hospital ICU.

With today’s three new cases, the total number of active cases in New Zealand is 112. Of these, 38 are imported cases at MIQ facilities and 74 are community cases.

One of the previously reported cases is now considered to have recovered.

It occurs when two deaths related to the virus were reported in as many days.

The first death was reported last night as a man identified in 1 NEWS by a relative as 58 years old and based in Auckland.

The Health Ministry confirmed this morning a second virus-related death, Dr Joseph Williams, former Prime Minister of the Cook Islands and respected GP in Auckland.

The number of Covid-19 related deaths in New Zealand is now 24.

Yesterday, labs processed 9,470 tests nationally for Covid-19, bringing the total number of tests completed to date to 807,460.
