Two men were rescued by police after a jet ski accident in Wellington Harbor on Sunday.
Two men have been rescued after being thrown from a jet ski into Wellington Harbor near Petone Beach.
One of the men was treated for symptoms of hypothermia.
The two men were forced to swim 1.5 km to shore in water at 13 degrees Celsius.
Both were wearing life jackets, but the jet ski started to drift away from them in the 25-knot wind. One of the men swam after the jet ski but was unable to catch it.

One man had a waterproof mobile phone. He called the police after half an hour in the water.
An emergency relay was broadcast and the police conducted a search with the help of the Centreport harbor pilot ship, two tugs (Tapuhi and Tiaki) and coast guard.
The two men were pulled out of the water shortly thereafter and brought ashore in the Lady Elizabeth IV police boat.
Sheriff Kyle Smith of the Wellington Maritime Unit said it was a timely reminder of the importance of being prepared.
“Without the life jackets and waterproof communications, it could have been a very different outcome for these two today,” Smith said.
