Two homeless people reported missing north of Dunedin on Saturday were found at the Jubilee cabin by volunteers.

A police spokeswoman said the couple were located at around 4 am in the cabin and were “fine.”

They were expected to come out today, depending on the weather.

A comment on a post on the Dunedin Land Search and Rescue Facebook page said the missing party had been “located safely and securely in a cabin in Silver Peaks.”

“Congratulations to the search teams operating in appalling weather conditions.”

On Saturday at 3.35pm the police were notified that two people were late due to a homeless man in Upper Waitati.

The police spokeswoman said bad weather had prevented the land search team from entering the area.

The Department of Conservation described the multiple routes through Silver Peaks as “challenging” and in a “rugged country”.
