The 19 crew members of the Sofrana Surville were tested after a New Zealand port worker who had been on the ship tested positive for Covid-19 on Saturday.
Queensland Health says: “Arrangements are being made to transfer two crew members who tested positive for Covid-19 to a hospital on the ground.”
The container ship remains anchored and quarantined off Mooloolaba.
The ship was passing through Noumea and Brisbane when the health alert was issued.
According to the New Zealand Ministry of Health, another crew member tested weak positive, indicating a historical infection.

“The specific genome sequence of the virus you have contracted has not been seen before in New Zealand.
“Australian authorities are conducting whole genome sequencing of the positive cases, which will help determine whether infected crew members are the likely source of the port worker’s infection.”
Yesterday, it was announced that two of the man’s co-workers also tested positive for Covid-19, bringing the potential ship-related cases here to three.
