Hamilton’s vacation traffic was stopped for several hours after a truck collided with a Ute, flipping it into oncoming traffic.
The accident involving three vehicles occurred at 11:40 a.m. Friday along Wairere Drive, closing the Pukete Bridge for several hours.
Hamilton Police Sergeant Major Phil Ruddell said a Ute ended up on the roof after it rolled over the middle strip of the yard on the 50 mph highway and in the path of an oncoming car.
“Both the eastbound and westbound lanes were blocked for some time. The occupant of the rolling car was injured, but not seriously, ”said Ruddell.

The crash caused superficial damage to the bridge. Wairere Dr reopened in both directions around 1.30pm.
“We knew there would be delays and frustrations on the part of motorists due to the closure of a major route around Hamilton, but once the accident was cleared, traffic began to return to normal shortly after,” Ruddell said.
“An investigation into the cause of the accident is still ongoing.”
